Did you know that January is National Mentoring Month? As a non-profit whose cornerstone is mentoring, Anthropos Arts fully supports the efforts of this incredible movement to create awareness about mentoring and provide more of these opportunities to young people through the public and private sectors. In a recent report, called “The Mentoring Effect: Young People’s Perspectives on the Outcomes and Availability of Mentoring,” at-risk young adults were surveyed on the concept of formal and informal mentoring. The results indicated mentoring can be linked to improved academic, social, and economic prospects. Young adults who were mentored, were much more likely to attend college, participate in extracurricular activities, ascend to leadership roles in school, and volunteer in their communities.
At Anthropos Arts, we’ve found the same findings to be true of our students. For the past several years, we have boasted a 100% graduation rate among our senior students. Most of these students attend college on scholarship. Our mentors not only help our students become better musicians, they provide them with personal growth and life skills. This leads to better outcomes in academics and future life decisions.
